The versatility of paper
There is an element of great importance in the world of decoration and interior design, and this is what I would like to talk to you about.
If we talk about big changes in a space with the fewest number of elements and the maximum results, we talk about wallpaper.
This is an element that lasts over time. It originated in the East, but it was not until the 17th century that it reached Europe. It has always been one of the most used tools by decorators and interior designers reaching great popularity in the 60s and 70s. Nowadays, and for some years now, wallpaper has become an essential part of any decoration.
How can I choose the wallpaper?
It is important, when choosing our paper, to take into account space where it is going to be placed.
For humid places or high traffic is preferable to choose a vinyl type of paper that is resistant to moisture, friction, and shock.
If we have reduced space and with little light, we will have to opt for papers with brighter colors and more serene prints; in this way, we will give more amplitude and luminosity to space.
It is the wider and brighter spaces that allow us to be more daring when making our choice.
Below I will briefly review the current trends in wallpaper that we can find in the market.
Vegetable motifs
Floral and vegetable motifs never go out of style. There is a wide range of possibilities according to our taste. If you are one of the classics you can lean towards liberty. On the other hand, if you are more daring, you can try a more jungle print. If you want to be up to date, choose them in blue and mustard – you’ll be sure to succeed!
Geometric shapes
The geometric prints are a must, suitable for all tastes and perfectly combinable with any type of decoration. A sure bet is those that include some metallic touch, which brings an extra luminosity to space.
Dream on!
Very much in the limelight are also the fantasy papers, those that make us get into our most incredible dreams. They are ideal for children’s spaces but perfectly adaptable to any space depending on the drawing and the situation.
In recent decorations, we have used this type of paper a lot, in Gärna we believe that they give a great personality to our rooms.
Fabrics and moiré (watered paper)
One option that we love in the studio and that personally fascinates me, are the papers with fabric texture. They are a safe bet, neutral, they bring the warmth of the fabric and the durability of a good paper. They are that kind of paper that you’re not content with just looking at, but that impels you to get closer and pass your hand over its surface to feel its texture. This type of paper is timeless, it survives fashions and the passing of time.
A good installation and placement are important so that the finish is perfect and our investment looks its best.
In Gärna we collaborate with professionals of our absolute confidence that make the chosen papers look as they should thank a perfect installation.
